It is my goal to create a nurturing and welcoming environment for all my students. This begins on the first day of school by establishing certain rules and expectations. I believe it is the teacher's job to establish the rules, routines, and norms of the classroom so that students know what to expect. However, I believe it is important that students have a voice in the classroom as well. I will ask for student input on classroom expectations to help create or adjust rules so that both myself and my students are clear on the expectations and feel a part of the classroom community.
I expect all my students to respect each other and all staff including myself. I expect my students to come on time and prepared to class. I hope that all my students will try their best to learn and will come to me with any questions that they have. I will also take every opportunity I can to involve parents and inform them about student progress.
1. Be respectful to classmates and staff.
2. Be prompt and prepared for class.
3. Dress appropriately for school.
4. Move in a calm orderly manner keeping voices at a reasonable level for the setting.
5. Always try to do your best!
I expect that all my students will come prepared to class and ready to learn. I will expect my students to respect me as much as I respect them. I believe in keeping students accountable for their actions. Students should have their homework completed and ready to check everyday. If they do not they must fill out the homework binder with the assignment name, reason, and what they plan to do so that they will complete their homework in the future. I will keep track of this binder and if students are consistently not doing homework I will talk to the student first and then their parents to help develop a plan.
To help foster a more positive learning environment, I have implemented non verbal signals. When I want students attention, I will raise my Wolfpack sign and wait for all students to do the same before continuing. I have also implemented a non verbal warning "stop sign" to let students know that their behavior is unacceptable and will result in an infraction if repeated. Here are sample posters of expectations that I used in the classroom while student teaching.
