I was born and raised in Newark, NJ. I attended private Catholic schools from K-12. I moved to North Carolina in June 2012 to pursue my dream of becoming a math teacher through the excellent teacher education program at North Carolina State University. I graduated from NC State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics Education-Middle Grades.
Education has always been an important part of my life. As a small child, my mother instilled in me the importance of receiving a good education. School was so important that I didn't miss a day even when I became sick. In my 13 years of education, I only missed school twice due to family obligations and had a perfect attendance record. Education became especially important to me as I became the first person in my immediate family to attend college.
I did not always know that I wanted to be a math teacher. My inspiration to become a middle grades math teacher is credited to my eighth grade science teacher Mrs. Pecorelli and my middle grades math teacher Ms. Abbondante. When I did not know what career to choose, Mrs. Pecorelli was the first person to suggest that I would be a great teacher. So I decided that's what I would be and I haven't looked back. I decided that I specifically wanted to teach math because of my teacher, Ms. Abbondante. She was my 5th and 6th grade homeroom and math teacher. She always encouraged me and pushed me to do my best. I always had good grades, but I was never able to make the honor roll due to forgetting my homework. She pushed me to do better and believed in me. I will never forget the day she presented me with my first honorable mention award. Because of her faith and encouragement, I stayed on honor roll until I graduated high school. So I decided to become a middle school math teacher to inspire my own students the way my teachers inspired me. I love math because it constantly challenges my critical thinking and views. I want to show my students that math can be fun and applicable to real life situations. I promise to do my best to make sure all my students achieve their goals and reach a higher education level.
